A few weeks ago I posted the recipe for our chicken chow mein, which is a regular on our menu at the Barker house. But sometimes we need something a little different than the chicken mixed into it. Sometimes I like to mix it up and make a side of beef with broccoli. This is so yummy, and although it tastes exactly like if we were to buy it from a restaurant, I know exactly what’s going into it!!!
It is a super easy meal to make, and I can make the chow mein and beef with broccoli completely in just about a half hour!
Beef with Broccoli
- 1 lb. Stir Fry Steak
- 2 crowns broccoli
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 tablespoons corn starch
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
Place a pan on the stove and turn to medium heat. Drizzle the olive oil in the pan and add the ginger and garlic. Give it a quick stir to evenly spread the ginger and garlic around the bottom of the pan.
Next lay out the steak pieces evenly so they are as close to a single layer as possible. Cook for about 2 minutes and then flip to cook the other side. (cook times may vary depending on heat!) Once the beef is cooked, push it to one side to separate it from the liquid. Mix together the corn starch with about 1/4 cup warm water. Pour the corn starch mixture into the beef drippings and mix to thicken.
In a separate container I steam my broccoli but you can totally throw it into the pan with the beef and cover to steam for ~4 minutes.
Once the broccoli is added to the beef, Combine the soy sauce, sesame oil and brown sugar in a bowl and stir well. Then top the beef with broccoli with the sauce and stir well! Serve immediately with rice or chow mein noodles!
