One of the biggest tasks I do to prep for Summer is get the house is complete working order. That way I feel like I can be at the park, the pool, or even just hanging in the backyard and I won’t have to be worrying about all those other things back at the house that need or should get done. This year, that is an extra large task being in a new house…but I’m determined to get it all done so I can enjoy the season with my kids. We currently only have 2 1/2 weeks left til Summer break so I am in overdrive right now to get the house how I want it.

What’s on your list of things to do before Summer hits?

One major one for me was to finish the laundry room makeover, and I get to show it to you today! I showed my vinyl makeover, but I’ve done quite a bit more since then!!! And have I told you that I LOOOOVE it? Like I might actually like doing laundry now….ok, that’s going too far. But I really do get happy every time I look in here.

One of my favorite parts of the room is the new white cabinet that we installed. I got it at a home recycling store for just $10, but it was a not so pretty brown color. Still in great condition, I knew I could make it over to be just what I wanted. After a few spray coats of white paint and a finish with polyurethane, we hung it in the corner of the room. It replaced the shelf & unusable rod we had hanging above the machines.

Oh, and I put the cutest colorful knobs on the doors!

We filled the cabinet with all of our supplies. Not just the ones we are using now, but the extras too! There’s some rolls of paper towels in there, I hold my irons, Persil detergent, tissues and our sock bowl….Oh yeah, I said sock bowl!

I use a lightweight wooden bowl to hold all of my mismatched socks. It’s a great way to keep them all in one place, but not just have an ugly pile o’ socks hanging around!

I also have a container for my Persil Laundry Detergent which keeps it within arms reach, yet keeps it pretty at the same time!!!!! It sits on top of my dryer right by my fun little Laundry sign.

A little more information about Persil, because if I love it this much, you should too!!! It was just released at select Target stores, and comes in both liquid and power caps. There’s great stain fighting power and the detergent leaves the clothes so fresh after washing. We’ve used the original scent power caps, and love the outcome of the clothes.

Next to the new cabinet, we put up a tension rod to use for hanging clothes to dry. It lifted the rod high enough that I can now hang clothes over the washer, which I couldn’t do before. I also hang my mini ironing board, which I set on top of the washer when ironing. Next to the washer we have the hamper that’s for things like wash clothes and kitchen towels. Most all the clothes go in individual hampers in everyone’s rooms.

I also added another sign to the wall and created a “LAUNDRY” banner that hangs on the far wall over the window. I also added a yellow rug to the floor which is totally not necessary, but I love it!

Having this task off my list of Summer prep work is a huge load off my back. I can’t wait for that relief feeling I’ll get on the last day of school when I know that I can just play and relax for the next few months with my kiddos!!!

What’s on the to do list, now, before Summer break hits?

  • Getting the swimsuits out Summer clothes out, washed and restocked in the dressers.
  • Swim lessons.
  • Yard Makeover for a more enjoyable Summer.
  • Workout and loose a little weight.

I pretty much have all of the above!!! Leave a comment letting me know what you have on your list.
