The other night I told Sean that I’m gonna do Christmas differently this year. I’m sick of buying toys and gifts just to buy things. Most of the time the kids look at it, put it aside and it gets lost in the bottom of the toy box. I realize that most people think that Christmas is better when there are mounds of toys wrapped under the tree on Christmas morning, but I have decided that this won’t be the case for our family this year. This year we are gonna do it more educational and worth while. Something that will help my kids use their imagination, learn and be productive. So when I heard about Target’s Toy Emporium, that they have online, I knew that it would be perfect inspiration and a shopping place for my kids’ gifts.
The toy emporium is fabulous in that they have 6 categories that they put their toys & brands into; Explore, Discover, Active, Imagine, Create and Build. Could you ask for anything better in the toys that your kids play with?
The last time I took Gracie into Target I let her pick a new toy, and I wasn’t surprised when she picked a new Melissa & Doug toy. We have a bunch at our house and I love all of them. The quality, and educational/learning abilities they provide is fantastic. They are so sturdy that even MY kids haven’t broken any of them yet! I’m also glad my kids love them so much, and are picking these toys as some of their favorites. Education while playing!
She picked the birthday cake because she pretty much wants it (and thinks it is) to be her birthday all year long!
We use toys like these to help her with counting, sorting, and learning to put things back together while following instructions from another person. I will ask her to put 2 candles on the cake, and see if she can do it. I ask her to put all the cake slices together, but only one sprinkle, and see if she can do it without any more help. We also do things like, take a sprinkle off, then a candy, then a sprinkle, then a candy. Teaching her patterns and direction.
With William we also go as far as teaching fractions. Asking him to take half of the slices off. He’s also learning what first, second, third and so on are at school. This has helped us practice that too. First put a sprinkle on, second put a candy and third put on a candle!
It’s been awesome having toys to help the kids learn and use their imagination. I now even hear Gracie making up sequences for herself while playing alone “Put on one sprinkle and 2 candles”! I love it!
