Cutting Mangos

A tutorial on how to cut a mango. So much needed cause you can't cut thru the core. Duh! This is awesome!
We have started to juice for breakfast and a couple times for snacks. I am loving the healthy aspects of it, and it’s so much fun finding new and creative “recipes” for our juice. But the other night I sent the hubby to the grocery store to buy some fruits and veggies, and he came home with a bunch of mangos….I don’t know how to even cut a mango. What was this man thinking?!
So of course, I had to ask for help. Haha, it’s quite a funny phone call to ask someone “how do you cut a mango”? But after I learned (it’s really simple) I realized that I can’t be the only one who has tried to cut thru the center of their mango, right?! Oh, and I’m also gonna share my favorite (so far) juicing recipe.
So, here you have it….HOW TO CUT A MANGO.

Start by laying the mango on it’s flat side. You will notice that the mango has 2 flat sides and 2 more round sides (ya know, cause it’s not a circle and all)

Cut down both sides, just on the outside of the core.

Set the middle aside, you can cut the other sides in a minute!

Use a sharp knife to score the mango into small sections. Careful not to cut thru the skin.

Place your fingers on the edges, and your thumbs in the middle on the bottom of the mango. Push up with your thumbs to invert your mango. Then cut off the pieces with a fork.

Next remove the other 2 sides of the mango, and remove them from the skin. Cube them into the same size as the above.

It’s so good. But now, on how we used it. In our newest, most favorite smoothie.

Green Smoothie: Makes approx 16 oz.
  • 1 large apple
  • 1/2 large orange
  • 4 strawberries
  • 1/4 pineapple
  • 1 banana
  • 1 mango (yeilds approx. 1 cup)
  • 2 celery stalks
  • 1/2 cup spinach

Make sure to remove the peal in the orange or banana. They can clog up the strainer resulting in less juice being extracted.

Oh, and did I tell you about the awesome-sauce amazingness of a juicer I got? It’s the Big Mouth Pro Juicer from Hamilton Beach. It’s freakin awesome. You really need to get yourself one. I love how wide the feed chute is, because it means less chopping of the fruit before-hand.
