I received a way fun box of Handmade Charlotte stencils and other fun products from Plaid a couple weeks ago. Handmade Charlotte is a new product line with amazing cardboard stencils in unique designs and out of this world project ideas.
As soon as I opened the box and saw my stencil kit, I knew what I was going to make. I have had an idea for this project for a while, but wasn’t sure how exactly I wanted it. For some reason it just came to me as soon as I opened the box.
I have had the “Time is on our side” saying for a while, and the temple picture has been hanging about The Little Man’s bed for about a year.
So When I knew what I wanted (figured out my sizes exactly) I sent the hubby to Home Depot to get my wood. He picked something up from the scrap section (because we LOVE a good deal!) and had them cut it down to size. My 2 squares are 8×8.
I then let the kiddos pick their own block colors. Since it would be representing them, and I wasn’t putting names on them, I figured the color would be their defining factor.
I used Folk-art Paint in Teal and in ______ for the blocks. Once they were painted on top (I wanted a raw look on the sides) I used the clock stencil to display the birth times of both kiddos. First I used a painters tape to hold the stencil in place so it wouldn’t peel off the paint.
Then using Plaid’s spouncers (these things are AWE-SOME!) I filled in the circle starting from the outside. These work wonders because instead of brushing side to side and risking the paint going under the stencil, you are painting in an up and down motion. So there are clean and crisp lines.
Once the circles were done, I made a small pencil mark in the center of the circle so I would know where to angle the clock hands from. To put the time in the right place, I placed the punch-outs from the stencil down, then laid the stencil on top of it and pulled the punch-out out again (does that make sense?!)
Once those were painted and dried, I hung them up in the kids’ room to represent two of the most important minutes in my life, and definitely the most important in theirs so far!
I LOVE using Plaid products, and their social media always gives such awesome inspiration.
