Vintage Fall

This fall, I did not want to use my old orange, yellow, brown, etc decor. I decided that I wanted something a little more unexpected. I picked a more vintage theme. And the first thing that popped into my head was newspaper!! For some reason, I love the colors of a newspaper {yeah, I know that is weird…my husband makes fun of me too!}

My neighbors probably think I’m weird too, because this is what my front doorstep has looked like for the last week or so:

Yes, I turned my flowerpot into a newspaper holder!
Plus, The Little Man keeps taking them out and leaving them all over the step and walkway!

BUT

There is a reason for my madness! I really did not want the “black and white” look. I wanted the vintage feel that you can get when the newspaper is exposed to the sun. So to achieve this, our front door took on the recycling plant persona for a while!

I really hope that I am not going overboard with the newspapers. I have not put it all together yet, so I’m not sure if it will be newspaper overload! I guess if it is, I can decorate my bathroom for Fall!!

Here’s my first newspaper tutorial!

Newspaper pumpkin

This is SO EASY.

I used a $1 pumpkin from Dollar Tree, modge podge, newspaper, and a foam brush to help smooth it out.
Pull strips of newspaper into odd sizes. The more random it is, the more unique it will look. Then pour some modge podge into a disposable bowl and dip the newspaper strips to cover both sides. Press them onto the pumpkin in no particular pattern.

Let the modge podge dry and then paint the stem to match the pumpkin!

Told you it was EASY!

  1. That is REALLY cute! I’m doing those next year for sure!

  2. I like that this idea could be used for other seasonal decorations, too. Apples for Fall, eggs for Easter. Now I’ll look for things to Modge Podge!

  3. Cute idea! I love it!

  4. How cute and easy!!! Love this

  5. You could even cut a seam around it, pull it off the mould (pumpkin) piece it back together with more newspaper and use the pumpkin again!

  6. Oh my gosh, I just found your tutorial! I did the same thing a few weeks ago without even seeing this!! Crafty minds think alike, huh? http://asmithofalltrades.com/2012/09/21/dollar-store-pumpkin-makeover/
