Our Thrifty Ideas: DIY Lip Scrub {For Kissable Lips}

Just before Christmas I posted this picture on Instagram (follow me @OurThriftyIdeas) and fell in love with it. But then, I got looking closely at it, and realized how gross my lips are.

I have always had extremely dry skin during the winter, and the last few years, my lips have been getting worse and worse. They are so dry, they turn almost white in color, and flake or crack on a regular basis.
They look so bad naturally, and then when I want to put on any lipstick, they look like the lips of a walking-dead zombi. See what I mean?!

So this month, I have decided to tackle this challenge with a little DIY project, and I am loving the results.

DIY lip scrub

  • 4 tbl sugar
  • 2-3 tsps olive oil
  • 1 drop lavender essential oil
  • 2 drops lime essential oil
    • {substitute for other scents and oils you may prefer}

I used a baby food jar, which is the perfect little jar for this. Place all the ingredients into the jar and mix together until it forms a scrub
I have definitely used some scrubs before that taste NASTY., but this one is yummy, so if you take a lick you’ll be fine!

To use just put a bit of scrub on your fingers and rub in a circular motion on your lips until both top and bottom lips have been scrubbed. Rinse with warm water and a soft cloth. I personally used it every day for 4 days, then went to every other for another 4 days (6 uses total) and now I am using it about once a week to keep my lips smooth and dry skin free! After using the scrub, put a medicated lip balm or Vaseline on your lips to help the new skin that you have exposed.
Check out how much better they look after.
