3 freezer meals for $20

One of my family’s favorite dinners is Tin Foil Dinner. But you see, the best part of that is that we don’t have to be camping to have them!! Oh wait, maybe that’s not the best part; you can also make the meal 3 times for just $20!! That means you can make it once for dinner tonight, and then 2 more times but instead of cooking it, just throw it in the freezer for later. All for just $20.

3 freezer meals for just twenty dollars

Wanna know how YOU can do it too? What you”ll need

  • 3 lbs stew meat – buy this in the “family packs” at the grocery store. You’ll get a lower price per lb overall. I can get 3 lbs for just $13
  • 1 lb bag of full size carrots. Don’t cheat and buy the small or pre-peeled ones; those are always priced up for the convenience
  • 1 bundle of celery – again don’t buy the pre trimmed ones, you save money cutting it off yourself!
  • 1 white onion
  • 4 red potatoes
  • Reynolds oven bags
  • If there’s other veggies you want to add, go for it! Yesterday we had yellow squash, but sometimes it mushrooms, zucchini, peppers and others.
  • Seasonings to taste (we also love to top ours with cream of mushroom soup and a dollop of butter!)

I made these tin foil freezer dinners tonight and it was devoured by everyone, including the kids! And I still have 2 more dinners worth in the freezer for later!

Start by peeling and cutting up EVERYTHING. Just do it all at once, and put each ingredient in it’s own pile. Once done, divide each one into 3 equal parts. Place 2 of the parts into a large plastic freezer bag – label and seal the bag for future dinners (yup, that easy). For tonight’s dinner; preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Then place a Reynolds oven bag into a metal cake pan. Layer the meat and veggies in the bottom of the bag and top with seasonings. I use salt, pepper, season salt and a little garlic powder. Then place a dollop of butter in the center and a few sections of cream of mushroom soup if you are using it too. Place in the oven and cook for 50-60 minutes. Serve immediately.

When you are ready to use the ones that are frozen, pull it out of the freezer and let it thaw during the day in the fridge. If you forget and need it last minute, pull it out of the freezer and put it directly into the Reynold’s oven bag and place into the oven BEFORE turning it on. Then preheat the oven and let it heat up while it thaws out the food! Then add an extra 15 minutes onto the overall cook time.

This is seriously the yummiest and it’s so great that you can make it quickly and for cheap.

  1. Love this idea! Those oven bags look amazing!

  2. Is the soup optional ? Do you have any suggestions to substitute the cream of mushroom – we love it but the kids are picky.
