I’m not sure I can explain how excited I am for Memorial Day. It marks the beginning of the best time of year. BBQ cookouts, sprinklers, late nights, and tons of sunshine!!! I’m getting antsy in my seat just thinking about it. I feel like I need to run out and buy ALL THE THINGS related to Summer. But let’s be honest, who can afford that?!
So instead I am getting myself ready for unexpected visitors, last minute barbecues, and parties with friend. I find the best way to do this is stocking my house with basics and people pleasers that can be pulled out at the last minute but make an impact in the form of everyone thinking you actually spent time preparing!
My Go To Summer Essentials:
Extra Beach Towels – You never know when the whole neighborhood is going to show up at once, which will most likely end in everyone being wet from some sort of water fight! Having extra towels on hand will come in handy, make you look like the hero, and also probably keep the inside of your house a little drier than not!
Easy Snack Foods – I like to prep food that can be used for a big neighborhood cookout, a last minute party, or just a snack for the kids as they picnic in the backyard. I prepare lots of fresh veggies into a tray for those bbqs and into individual serving baggies for the kids snacks. Crackers, chips and other healthy snacks are also a MUST to have on hand as well. Everyone likes them and they are easy to keep tucked away until needed. But what can you do to really make your veggies and crackers pop? Enter the Chobani Mezé™ Dips. They are a new product at Walmart and available in 4 amazing flavors (also grab a $1 off coupon here). These dips can be found in the deli area.
- Roasted Red Pepper
- Three Pepper Salsa
- Smoked Onion Parmesan
- Chili Lime Chobani Meze Dip
The dips are a combination of real vegetables, and thick, creamy and trusted Chobani Greek Yogurt created to make your parties and snacking adventures easy peasy! Just remove the lid and serve. It makes it so easy that my kids can even enjoy them while grabbing their own summertime snack.
Popsicles Popsicles Popsicles – I always make sure to have a cold treat on hand for those extremely warm days that the kids and all their friends have been playing in the heat for hours. Making my blueberry pineapple popsicles or strawberry banana ones are always top of the list during our Summer prep. We want to make sure that they are always on hand for my kids and anyone who stops by.
Inexpensive Decorations – Really, you never know when you may become the host to a quick holiday party. Here in Utah we have Memorial Day, 4th of July and our state’s birthday 24th of July which all have a red/white/blue color scheme which makes it easy to love to decorate that way. But even if you don’t, having a few things on hand to decorate the food table, or add some festivity to your cookout will make you look like a rockstar hostess! I keep practical and non practical things on hand. I mean, star lights aren’t necessary….but so dang cute!! But themed napkins are fun, colored citronella candles, treat bags in all different colors are just a few of the things that I like to keep on hand for some fun decorations.
Sunscreen – LOTS OF SUNSCREEN – that one’s pretty self explanatory right?!
Ok, now you tell me, what would you make sure you always have on hand for unexpected guests, quick parties or a last minute neighborhood cookout?
