So I have a confession to make…when my family makes a mess, I am great at “putting it off” until Kids are in bed or I just get around to it. So about a week ago, we had a HUGE chili disaster in the microwave as I was trying to reheat a bowl. Well, I hit 4 minutes, instead of 1 and then walked away. When I walked back into the kitchen about 3 1/2 minutes later, my chili was scorching hot, and also ALLLLL over my microwave.
Of course I was in the middle of making lunch for the whole family. So I walked away, finished lunch. Put the kids to bed, did a load of laundry, blogged a bit, and the kids were back awake. So now here we jump forward 5 days (yes, I said 5 days) when i realized that I really needed to clean that microwave out. YUCK. It was really stuck onto those walls like it was life or death. I really wanted to take the entire microwave, and put it in the sink to soak…well that wouldn’t work. But I knew there had to be a way to “soak the food off”. So I searched pinterest and found the best way to clean my microwave with NO CHEMICALS!! The tip was from Readers Digest of all places.
Ok, what you do is get a microwave safe glass bowl and fill it with water. Add a little baking soda to help with the odor in the microwave, then place in the center and boil it. Mine took about 4:30, but it could be less or more for you, depending on your microwave. Then leave it in there for about 1-2 minutes so the steam has time to work. Once you open it up, you should be able to wipe it right down!!
I love that it’s so easy, and I don’t have to worry about the yucky chemicals being in there, and possibly exposing the next couple of meals that I stick into the microwave.
PS, I’m on a “Late” Spring cleaning kick lately. So be ready for some cleaning and organizing tips and tricks coming your way soon!
