My neighbors have gotten to know me all too well in the 2 years we have lived here. They know not to throw anything away without asking me about it. Even down to the smallest thing. The other day my neighbor brought me a really big pinecone. Like BIG and said “I know you can do something with this”! haha. He was right
So we went and collected one more, so each child could have one, and went to work making fun Spring Animals from our pinecones.
Pinecone Animals
- Pine Cones (you can buy them on amazon!)
- Paint
- Paint Brush
- Googley Eyes
- Cardstock
- Popsicle Sticks
- Pipe Cleaners
- Hot Glue
The kids picked what they wanted to make with the pine cone. Then they painted the pinecone accordingly (and everything else in site!)
This is one of the times I have to remember they are creating and not to get wound up in the messy paint everywhere! Just plan for it and cover all surfaces and give them a painting apron to wear whenever the paint gets brought out.
Assembling the pinecone animals
Once they had painted their pine cones and they were completely dry, we used all sorts of mediums to give the animals their features
pipe cleaners, paper, colored popsicle sticks, googly eyes, and yarn to embellish
Just hot glue them in place.
We love how they turned out!! The kids play with them all the time, but they are also a great addition to our Spring Décor right now!
