This is a great way to teach your kids counting, number recognition and coloring inside the lines all while playing one simple game! They won’t even know they are learning.
One of my favorite ways to work on counting and number recognition with my 4 year old is by playing Race to the Top with her. She loves to roll the dice and color the squares….we’re still working on the whole loving to count part!! But once she rolls the dice, she has to count how many dots are on the side showing, and then find the corresponding number/Christmas Tree on the chart. Then color one square above that number. The point is to see which number can get to the top the fastest!
We use a white dice that has colored dots, that way she can get to the point where she recognizes which colors are which numbers. Most of the time she still has to count, but every once in a while she will see the color and say “oh that’s 4”! I think it’s a great way to help with the recognition and memory part of things along with her counting skills!
Most of the time this game will become a group thing! Gracie will roll the dice, count and tell her brother which tree it represents. Then her brother will color in the squares! A great compromise when two people want to play. Another way to do it in a group is for each child to have their own dice, crayon and paper. Then they race to see who can get one line to the top before the other.
