kids activity bucket list

We are coming up on the last few days of Summer for my little ones and I want to make the very best of each and every second. We have had an eventful Summer already (anyone else exhausted just thinking about the last 2 months?!) filled with so many great adventures. But I want to make sure these last few days are epic. Now don’t get me wrong, we aren’t going on a big vacation, or even out of town. We’ll still be doing day to day chores and eating mac and cheese on a picnic blanket out front, but I want to make the most of the outdoors while we have the time. This list can also be used on the weekends or even as fun family evening activities while it’s still warm outside.

  8. roll down a grassy hill
  9. fly a kite
  10. play in the rain
  11. go to a pet store/petting zoo and visit the animals
  12. go on a lizard hunt (if they are native to your area)
  13. go on a hike you haven’t done before IMG_3018
  14. have a popsicle, ice cream or snow cone for dinner!

(I had to put this video in, I love seeing my husband out practicing ball with Will, keeping up his skills off season!) One of my favorite things about this list is that my kids are gonna come home smelly, dirty, and most likely with stuff all over their clothes. There’s so many times I have looked at my kids as they walk in the door for dinner and think “that’s the true sign of a good childhood”. The other day I got a text from one of my friends, and the conversations went like this:

M:Will you send my kids home please V: Yup M: Thanks! M: Looks like they had fun! haha (her kids were SOAKING wet and covered in dirt) V: Sorry M: I think it’s safe to say our kids have amazing childhoods

It made me so happy to know that others are thinking the same thing as me…that when they come in looking and smelling like that, you know they are having fun and enjoying every minute of being a kid.

BUT WHAT ABOUT THE DIRTY CLOTHES?!

I have to admit that when I first moved to Southern Utah I was terrified of the red dirt being EVERYWHERE. My kids can stay on the sidewalk and they are still tracking it in. So how in the world am I supposed to keep it out of the clothes? I’ve learned that it really isn’t as bad as I thought it would be, as long as I don’t let it sit and I get it into a high-quality, powerful and up to date washer/dryer right away and maybe a good presoak (as needed). But we are yet to get a red dirt spot that I couldn’t get out!!
