Meeting Martha

I am a member of the Everywhere Society and Everywhere has provided me with compensation with this post for the Macy’s Martha Stewart event. However, as always, all thoughts and opinions expressed herein are my own.

You guys, I met Martha!!! Like, she asked me a question, and I answered it. I even had pictures to prove it all!!! I may look a fool in the pictures, but who the heck cares. Cause I met an amazing craft, DIY, foodie ICON. Seriously, the things that she has done for all of those communities is incredible. Her empire has taken over and the products and inspiration they produce seriously blows my mind. I am always so excited to get her magazine in the mail each month, so when I got her Martha’s American Food cookbook I was like a giddy little school girl flipping thru the pages and drooling over the food in the pictures.

So she came to SLC as part of her book tour, and it happened to be while I was up that direction visiting family and participating in yearly traditions, so of course I met up with Debra from Housewife Eclectic  and headed up to SLC. When Martha walked into the area, it was like magic. The whole line of people when silent. You could have heard a pin drop. Everyone was in awe of this person, and rightly so.

Debra brought her little baby, and Martha asked questions about her, because she’s so freakin cute. Then once Debra walked away, Martha asked me if we were sisters. I will definitely take that as a compliment!

I’m now so excited to start trying recipes from her cook book. She shares things from the south, the north east etc. Its fun to see all the ideas and flavors used for each area of the nation.

Have you tried some of her recipes before? What’s your favorite?

PS, we walked around to see some of the fabulous products that Macy’s sells of Martha’s line, and this was by far the greatest. How inventive and brilliant is this spatula?

I was so tickled to read your experience of meeting Martha,I also met her at a book signing many years ago! I was so awe struck I could hardly speak! She had a cup of tea they had brought her. I was so taken by her complexion! It appeared she had no ittle makeup, but her skin just glowed like a brand new baby’s does after a bath! Almost translucent, and her teeth were perfect, everything about her was perfection. She also spoke to everyone and a lady asked questions about gardening, fruit trees it was,she took time answering every little detail. It was wonderful,I also got a singed picture of her! She was telling the people in line the previous night she was at some performanance by Barbara Streisand and only went to bed at 4AM, then up early for her charter flight for the book signings. Everything abouther was perfection, and they had a display of all the books she had written,I was so amazed, just like you were, thinking this one person was such an expert at so many things. Amazing experience. I enjoyed reading yours soo,I know that feeling.:)

    • I love this! I love how you described her. it’s so spot on and totally true.

I am so happy you got to read my reply. I just know that feeling you had!Likeliving it all over again! You instantly think back to the influences in her life to bring her to the point of being an expert on nearly everything, I thought about her mother and father, She and her father were insomniacs, they used to stay up late and play board games and eat liverwurst sandwiches with a big slice of red onion! I remember she told about she volunteered to scrub the clay gardening pots for her father every year, she entered contests for her roses she was growing as a young teen,on and on it goes,so many influences in her life, the neighbors who owned a bakery and then retired and still baked in their basement, she helped ,watched and learned. On one birthday of her daughter, she shingled ther garage roof that day also!.an amazing life of learning and being around the right people. Just looking at her, She could seem rather ordinary by some standards, but she is anything but! I also noted her fresh careful manicure, clipped close, very neat and fresh, polish was either clear or very nude. Her hair was very clean, stylish, and thick! Thrill of a lifetime!
