The Color Run- and a little about being healthy

If you  follow me on Instagram (funny how many of my posts start like this…maybe you should just all be following me on Instagram then?!) then you have probably seen I recently got a Hamilton Beach juicer and smoothie blender.

My family is really trying to kick our butts into gear and be more healthy. This is including not just our eating/snacking habits but as well as our physical health.

Now let me get a little personal….
The other night I was on my way to a blogging get together and one of my friends came to pick me up; we’ll call her Sally.
Well Sally was cleaning out her car and I was on the phone with, we’ll call her Jill. So as I was talking to Jill and giving her directions to my house, Sally said “you need to go change your clothes, you look pregnant”.

Now if it had been someone other than Sally, or if it wasn’t totally and completely true, I maybe would have gotten upset. But the true honesty is that I have gained weight lately. I have been gaining almost all of it in just my belly…so I do look pregnant. And normally I’m good at dressing my body to hide it, but lately it has been hard.

Not only was this experience a “Ok, others are noticing too” moment, but I also really realized that it was time to get my life back as well as the body I want and deserve.

So along with our change in how and what we eat, I am starting to work out more. I am doing at home workouts with Blogilates which is fabulous. But especially now that the weather is getting so much better I am looking forward to outside workouts. I’ve been great at riding bikes and pulling the kiddos in my trailer. But this summer, I have decided to run a 5K. Now to some this may be a walk in the park. But to me, this is a HUGE deal, and I may be having small panic attacks from time to time.

But I have picked The Color Run for my 5K. Mainly becuase it will be a challenge, but it will also be so much fun and will distract me from the fact that I am running!
Have you heard of it? It is an awesome party sort of run. And it’s not like you half to hurry and finish first. Because lets be honest, I’ll be at the back of the pack with the 90 year old who is running to cross it off her bucket list or something!

So 4 times during the race, they throw colored chalk. People dress up in all sorts of fun costumes and fashion statements. They play music throughout and there’s a big party at the finish line. Seriously, if I am gonna force myself to train for a 5K, it might as well be one that is fun and I can look forward to right?!

Doesn’t that look like so much fun. I’m thinking that the next 4.5 months of torcher training will totally be worth it to run this race with some of my best friends.

PS, if you want to run this race is SLC, they are anticipating the race to sell out quickly. But I’ve got a promo code for you to get $5 off your race registration, and if you register as a group you get another $5 off!!! Just use promo code “COLORTHRIFTY” at checkout. I’d love to have a few (or all) of you running next to me. Just ignore me if I cry of pain and happiness at the end of the race.

I am excited to keep you up to date on my progress. I am not focusing on a total amount of weight lost, but I’ll tell you (so I am held accountable) that I want to fit into a size 6/8 pant by the end of summer….It’s going to be hard to accomplish, and it will take a whole lot of dedication on my part. But I know I can do it. I just have to suck it up and put my health and life in front of cravings and laziness!

What’s a great way you have found to help you stay or get healthy?

  1. This is SO much fun! I did The Color Run in Sacramento last August, and I’m signed up to do it again this year too. Last year I speed walked the whole thing (as did a good majority of the people), but I really want to try to run it this year too. We can do it! 🙂

  2. How exciting! I can’t wait to here more about this journey, remember it isn’t so much about how we look as it is how we FEEL! I think you are BEAUTIFUL inside and out!!

  3. This looks sooo fun!! I think there was a colour run in my city (Melbourne) a while ago but I wasn’t into running and didn’t think much of it. But I’m fitter now and would love to be involved in something like this! Good luck with it 🙂
