right? Oh man, how many more times can I bright bright colors into my home, pray for warm weather, call it “spring” and more. I’m determined that if I do enough that one day it will finally come AND STAY. We just had snow over the weekend, after being in the 60-70’s. BOOO. So I am just going to continue to do the spring thing, and think bright thoughts.
This past Sunday night we stuck at home as just an immediate family (usually we have an extended family dinner). So I wanted to make a fun dessert but didn’t have much on hand. So I just used a box “fun-fetti” cake batter and whipped up some cupcakes. Threw on some bright colored sprinkles but it just needed something else. So I made a fun “spring” banner to go over the top of them.
I used:
- Bakers Twine
- Hot Glue
- Toothpicks
- Scissors
- “Spring” banner printable (download here)
- Fun paper straw (not pictured)
You can print off the banner that I used here. Just know that my colors are different. Because apparently I am running out of colored ink, and this is what printed instead of the colors on the screen. Oh well, both are cute!
Once printing the pendants off, I folded the paper over right on the top of the pendant. Once folded over, cut out each triangle. The reason for folding is it will give you the back of the pendent to perfectly match the front.
Once each is cut, you will glue it onto the bakers twine. to do this, put a line of glue right in the fold of the pendant. Put the bakers twin in place and close. Then put a small dab of glue at the point and close the pendant again to hold the bottom shut. Make sure to leave at least 3 inches excess of the front and back ends.
Once all the pendants are on the twine, you will glue the excess ends to the straw. To do this, put a line of glue on the very top of the straw and then wrap the twine around it 3 or 4 times. Make sure to secure it in place with one last dab of glue.
Then you will put a toothpick in the cupcake to hold the banner up by being the center of the straw.
It’s such a cute way to spruce up a normal cupcake. Also, use it as décor once you are done inhaling eating the treat!
Now, you could use this on a cake as well. Just use skewers instead of tooth picks and don’t cut the straw in half.
