DIY Colored Toddler Pants

DIY Colored Pants for Toddlers

Colored skinnies and jeans are all the rage right now. And lately I have been seeing them for the Littles as well. How dang cute! But I haven’t been able to find them for a decent price for how quickly Baby Girl Barker ruins the knees of her pants! So what’s a girl to do? Make do with what she already has!!

I saw this post on Oops I craft my pants and had to make my own spin on it. So I took a pair of denim jeans that Baby Girl Barker already had (I forgot to take a before picture Sad smile, but they were a dark denim) and bleached the color out of them.

I used 12 cups warm water to 3 cups bleach. After about 2 hours, I pulled them out and rinsed them, but they weren’t quite as bleached as I wanted. So I put them back in for about 3 more hours. They came out pretty white, but unfortunately I couldn’t get a few of the blue spots out. Also, don’t stress over the threads. They wont bleach, so you are stuck with whatever color thread they were mad with!
I then washed and dried the newly bleached pants.

I then dyed them with a liquid RIT Dye in Teal. Using about 10 cups of HOT water, a teaspoon of salt and a tablespoon of dye I mixed the pants into the mixture and let set for about 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
I probably should have stirred it more often, because the pants are a bit blotchy. I’m not sure if it was from my double bleaching technique, or from not being mixed as much as I have in the past. But although they are blotchy, they are still darling!
