{Tutorial} Wood Pallet into Kids Bench

Timeout Bench 10

Ok, this may have been the hardest tutorial I’ve ever done. I just couldn’t figure out the best way to explain the steps, and make it clear!
But here we go!

Kids Bench from Wood Pallet

Supplies:

  • A Wood Pallet
  • Screws
  • Drill
  • Saw
  • Measuring Tape
  • Wood Stain
  • Hammer (for pulling off the extra slat)

I made the mistake of staining the pallet first, then cutting it into pieces. I wouldn’t recommend this way, because then you will have to re-stain where you cut. And if you’re lazy like me, staining twice is just way too much!

So, we started by cutting the pallet in half. Then, one of the half’s we cut again. So we had 3 pieces. One was 1/2 the original size, the other 2 were 1/4 the original size.

From here, you will pull off the bottom slat from the 1/2 piece. You will need this for the seat part of the bench.

Now, put the 1/2 piece, and one of the 1/4 pieces standing upright.

You will then screw the last 1/4 piece, to both upright sections, with the slats lining JUST above the front legs. This will ensure that the extra slat you attach will be the same height.

We didn’t like the extra gap at the back, so we cut it down a bit

Once you screw the 3rd 1/4 to the front and back, attach the extra slat to the front legs.

Now you will stain it, and then add a cute banner if you’d like. I was gonna put “Timeout” across the back. But since it has now become a favorite bench, being on timeout is not a punishment. So we may just leave the cute banner on it instead!
