Incase you missed it….

For those of you that missed it, here is the Silhouette post I did on Robert’s Crafts blog!
Lately I have been completely obsessed with the look of silhouettes. They are so classic, yet sleek and modern at the same time.

I realized it was about time to add some fun personality to our rental home, and what better way than with a fun silhouette wall?

Today I am going to show you a really simple and inexpensive way to make a canvas silhouette for yourself!

What you’ll need:
blank canvas – any size
picture of your loved one’s silhouette
scissors
pen
freezer paper
iron
towel
paint
pain brush

This may seem like a lot of supplies, but you should have most at home!

To make your canvas silhouette

Take a picture of your loved one’s silhouette. This is best if you can take it with a solid and contrasting background. Then print the picture off in the size that you want.
(My canvas is an 11×14, so I printed my picture as an 8×10)

Get a piece of freezer paper that is a comparable size to your canvas. If you need to, trace the canvas onto the paper and trim down to size.

Next, center your silhouette picture on the back of the freezer paper and trace the silhouette onto the paper. Be careful and get all the details

Cut out the silhouette, being careful to get all the details.

Then you will need to iron the freezer paper to your canvas. To do this, place the freezer paper in the appropriate place on the canvas. Cover with a thin towel and iron. The towel will keep from burning the paper as well as possibly spreading the ink from the paper to the canvas.

Once the freezer paper is ironed on, you can paint your silhouette. Make sure to brush from the edges inward in case you have any spots that did not get fully ironed down. This will help you to get crisp edges and keep the details.
Mine only took 1 coat of paint!

Do not let the paint dry completely before removing the freezer paper. This will prevent the paper from pulling up any attached paint.

Let your silhouette dry and you are ready to display!
