Silhouette wall – project FAIL

Lately I have been completely obsessed with the look of silhouettes. They are so classic, yet sleek and modern at the same time.
I realized it was about time to add some fun personality to our rental home, and what better way than with a fun silhouette wall?
So the past week I have been crafting every chance I get (while the little one is sleeping!), and I am getting this fun wall completed! I am so excited.
Unfortunately, today’s project was a complete FAILURE.
I like the idea of it, so I am going to attempt it again once the baby comes….but until then, I am still sharing the project with you!
Hand Print Silhouette
What you’ll need:
Scissors
Pen
Vinyl
Plate
Plate Hanger
Loved One’s Handprint
It is very simple to do this project.
Trace your loved ones hand
Trace and cut it out on your vinyl.
Apply the vinyl to the plate.
Once it is done, you can use a Plate Hanger to hang your plate on the wall.
We did Little Man’s hand on one side leaving the other side for Baby Girl Barker’s handprint once she’s here. But I don’t like the unfinished look, nor did I like the white vinyl on the plate.
So, I decided to do something different until Baby Girl Barker is here.
With this, I just cut “Barker” out on my Cricket using black vinyl. Doesn’t the black look so much better than the white?
Also, once Baby Girl Barker is here, I am hoping to do a silhouette of The Little Man and her holding hands so it doesn’t seem as blunt as above and instead more subtle and intimate.
I’m also doing painted, vinyl, and printed silhouette’s of each family member. They are so easy and look fabulous. I can’t wait to show you how the whole wall is coming together!

  1. I think the plate is cute, why did it fail? We did a plate with all four generations of us girls, hand prints, names and ages….

  2. I guess it’s not the idea that is a fail. I just didn’t like the white on the plate, and the unfinished look before Baby Girl gets here. I’m going to attempt it again in a few months tho

  3. Neat idea. This would make a good gift.

  4. this is so cute. i know i would find a way to mess it up though ><

Love this ideal perfect for those mix matched plates that are always a find at yardsales! I’ll never pass up a plate or server again! Thanks for sharing and there’s never failures in crafting!
