Children’s Activies 11/11/10 – Learning the Alphabet

Right now, I am really focusing on activies with Wiliam that will help him learn the alphabet. I know that there are those expensive  programs that you can buy, all the toys that sing/tell the alphabet, and much more. But I want to make it into a game. I don’t want William to feel like learning is a chore. And of course, I am CHEAP, so I want to save as much money as possible.

I found a great website called ToddlerToddler! It has such great ideas for your Toddlers and Pre-preschoolers.
I found this amazing Alphabet game that I knew William would love. And I was right!!

It’s called Alphabet Bugs. You print out this alphabet sheet of Alphabet Bugs, and then cut them out! Put a piece of tape on the back of each, and tape them all over yourself. Then have your little one help save mom from the Alphabet Bugs. When they take off each one, either tell them what alphabet bug that is, or if they can talk already then have them tell you.

I was going to take a picture, but I just couldn’t get one of myself covered in the bugs!

William LOVED this. He would take off each one, and stick it to himself, the couch, the wall, and anywhere else nearby. Then throughout the day as he would find another one somewhere, I would again remind him which Alphabet Bug it is!
Also, remember that when you are fully done, help him, or have him, put the Alphabet Bugs in order and then sing the alphabet with them!

Although William is still not fully talking yet, now is the time to start teaching. It is funny the words he does catch up on. So starting the Alphabet now will get it in his mind.

Make sure to check out ToddlerToddler‘s website and see all their fabulous ideas!
