I’ve been obsessed with wood signs lately, and decided to make a fun Christmas Tree Farm one to go in my Christmas Tree! Yup, you read that right, I put it IN my Christmas tree. I love the the statement it makes, and the unexpected aspect it brings to the tree decorations.

Supplies:

  • 7×12 piece of hardwood
  • 1×2 piece of wood
  • cricut cutting machine and vinyl (or a pre-made stencil)
  • paint
  • nail gun

Very first I painted my sheet of wood white with a couple coats, and then let it dry for 24 hours to make sure the vinyl wouldn’t pull it off.

I created my own design in Cricut Design Space and then cut the deign out of vinyl!I messed up my trees when I first cut them out, so I had to recut them. Oops!  After it was all cut out, I transferred the vinyl onto the sheet of wood, making sure all the wood was covered.

Next I used a sponge dabber paint brush to put the paint on the vinyl. This helps to keep the paint from being too thick and bleeding under the vinyl.

After about 1 hour I pulled all the vinyl off the wood, remembering to get all the inside spots, like the “R” and such! Once the paint dried, I took a light sandpaper to it to give it a distressed look.

Once the sign was done I put it in the tree but decided that it needed something else, so I decided to do a natural frame around it.

I cut my small ends of the wood first, at the exact length of the board. Then I measured the length from the edge of both edges after the wood was attached, and that is the length I cut the last two pieces. I then used a brad nail gun to attach the boards to the sheet of wood, holding it all in place. I love the look of the natural wood against the sign.
