Remember when I told you about the DIH Workshop for these holiday door hangers last week? Well today I get to share with you my version of the project!!! It was fun to put our own spin on it, and the kids loved helping out too. You know that the kids are involved when there are googly eyes!

Who knew that these few pieces of wood could become such a fun project. The kids loved helping glue together the tongue and grove pieces, and pushing them all together. It’s fun to make these projects with the kids, and find the small things they can help do.

Because the kids were helping me, I drew the face on santa, and had them paint in the lines…or try to!

We painted the face of Santa a tan color, the beard and mustache white, and then traced out the mouth and mustache with grey. We then used a circle paint spouncer sponge for the nose! And of course, we tried painting on the eyes but it turned out looking like a 5 year old did them (because a 5 year old did!). So to cover it up we decided on some fun googly eyes.

Once the Santa was done, we had to hang it from the eye screws. I used some twine and attached a bunch of ribbon to the top of the string to act as a bow.

The other side of the Santa got turned into a snowman. It was fun to decorate it the same as we would have an actual snowman.

We used the circle paint spouncer sponge again to paint the eyes and mouth on the snowman. Then we did a small triangle with a rounded end for the nose. Something simple and easy for the kids to help paint.

On both the Santa and Snowman sides, we used a little sand paper to distress the figure a little, revealing the wood underneath.
