Holiday Table Decor

Today I’m excited to share with you a fun, easy and super inexpensive way to decorate your table for your upcoming holiday dinner. Whether it’s for the big day with family, or a holiday dinner with friends, this table scape will be sure to impress.

I didn’t want to let the tablescape take away from the food, because although delicious, it’s also incredibly beautiful. I love the depth of the Hormel Ham, the rich color of the drinks and the buttery color of rolls just to name a few. So I went along those same lines when picking the color scheme for the table. All of the natural aspects easily complimented the food. 

I started with the base of the table being just a white tablecloth. From there I built the layers of decor, first of which was a long strip of burlap. This started our natural look. I then added the centerpiece which consisted of faux flowers and foliage from the store. I love having real looking fakes that I can use year after year. And as an added tip, they are usually on a great discount just before the holidays, or even more after. So grab a bunch now and keep them for future years decor. 

I put the “flowers” in a clear jar that I then filled around the stems with a crinkle cut paper shred. I then placed the jar into a wooden tray that has a mirrored bottom with gold accent. This tray was also big enough for the rolls to sit inside as well.

My favorite part of the whole table decor has to be the place cards. You see, earlier this year we had a tree die and have to get cut down. My kids were devastated, so we kept a large portion of a branch that has been sitting in our garage ever since. I thought this was a great time to put the branch to use and cut 1″  sections from it, then inserted a slit about 1/2 inch deep from side to side. These now serve as the holders for the name cards!

For the name cards, I used a deep yellow cardstock paper and had my Explore Cutting Machine both write the names and cut out the leaves. It also cut the rectangles out of a gold foiled paper that served as the background to the leaves. Then I attached the leave to the rectangle using a double sided adhesive roller and it was done. They were so simple and a favorite for everyone in the family. 

Not only did we have the sentiment from the tree, but it fit the decor so well bringing in the natural look with the wood.

I didn’t have a full matching set of table settings, so I stuck with a color scheme instead of all being the same. The look turned out great. It was a mix between red, grey and a cream color. 

With the table settings, I used a cream colored cloth napkin and folded it to be a 3 pocket napkin. You can find my tutorial with a full video on how to fold it here on the blog. I feel like it took the mismatched of the place settings and brought them together with one coherent thing.

Once the delicious ham and all it’s sides were on the table, there were still a few empty spots on the table, so I used some neutral candle sticks to fill them in. I didn’t put any candles on top them, just used them alone. I love the look they brought to the table.

So what did we eat you ask?!

• Of course we had a delicious Hormel Ham. We picked up the Hormel Cure 81 bone-in ham Cherrywood flavor from Walmart, and Sean later told me it was the best one he’s ever had!! The Cherrywood flavor was a huge hit. 
• We had loads of corn, as it’s a consistent favorite of the kids!
• The crockpot scalloped potato dish was delicious, and a perfect side for the ham.
• I made my famous buttery rolls, but this time, instead of cutting them into crescent rolls I made them into large balls, let them rise and then baked them so they were more of a dinner style roll. Still just as yummy as when they are crescent style!
• We started with a typical green salad, and the kids probably would have filled up on just that. I love how much they love veggies!
• I served my citrus glazed carrot dish as well. It was a great addition.
• And lastly, I picked up a pumpkin pie from Walmart as well. Maybe one day I’ll get brave and make one from scratch!
