Really easy and useful tips for Spring Cleaning your car. #2 is my favorite and I need to do it!

This weekend we spent some time doing some Spring Cleaning. It was beautiful weather so I couldn’t let myself spend too much time inside. We took this time to do some spring cleaning on our cars. There’s some really important things that need to get done, and some others that are just handy and useful tips. So I figured I would share them with you guys today.

Really easy and useful tips for Spring Cleaning your car. #2 is my favorite and I need to do it!

1- I’m fairly certain that it is impossible to prevent stains on the carpet of the car. But we recently decided to grab some inexpensive rubber floor mats at Walmart, which has saved a bunch of hassle and heart ache over the stain issue. Even though our car has the carpet ones that came with it, we layered these rubber ones over the top. They are easy to pull out to spray off, wipe down or inexpensive if they do need to get replaced.

2- Removeable plastic mats are a lifesaver for my center cubby. I’ve had drinks spill, cracker crumbs fall into the small sections and almost lost my mind trying to clean these things in the past. Contact your dealer to see if they have these littler inserts that can be removed for cleaning. It’s a million times easier to clean up these spills.

3- Keep up on the maintenance on your car. Today while cleaning I realized that we were past due for our oil to get changed. Trust me (by personal experience and a seized up engine as a younger-more naive girl) you don’t want to go much past when the oil needs to be changed.

Also make sure to fill your washer fluid. With the wet winter I’m sure you went through quite a bit without even realizing it. So top it off so you don’t get stuck without.

Check your tire pressure and filters (this can affect your gas milage) as well as getting your tires balanced & rotated.

4- Don’t just clean the visible areas. Make sure to pick up the mats, fold down, lift up or remove seats when possible. You’ll be so surprised what you’ll find (check out what I found when I thought it was already clean)

5- Make the necessities accessible. I used to put our tissues in the center cubby (because they are used almost every time we’re in the car) but if I ever put something on top, it was too big of a hassle to get them out. I got these car tissue packages by Kleenex that are meant to go between the seat and center consul. These things have become such a lifesaver because I can quickly reach it when one of the kid unexpectedly sneezes.

6- We always worry about the kids spilling their drinks in their seats and having it leak onto the actual seat. For easy cleanup, place a towel down before buckling the car seat into place. Then if something gets spilled, you just need to pull out the towel and wash it. This is also a great way to protect leather seats from the harsh edges of seat legs.

  1. Great tips! I didn’t know they had inserts for the cup holders, ’cause those things are seriously a pain to clean! Pinning! 😉

  2. Always use plastic mats in the car! Always!! 🙂

Man!!! I REALLY need to do this!

  3. I keep cleaning wipes in my car, so I can clean up whenever I have a minute.

  4. You’d think with only two “grown-ups” in the car the mess would be less. Nope. Great post!

  5. Awesome tips!

  6. I just did a Kleenex stock up around our house! Need to get a pack for the car too….that design is too cute!

  7. I had no idea Kleenex made car packs! I always have a ginormous box in my car! My biggest tip is to take everything out when you get home. Always tidy up!

  8. Awesome ideas! I’m inspired to clean my car out!! ~Christy

  9. My cleaning your car tip is to get the full service when you have your oil changed and they will vacuum it out for you! Kind of lazy, I know. However, it is stinkin’ cold in Idaho in the winter and it beats vacuuming in the cold. 🙂

  10. Keep your car clean! Just don’t ever leave a mess. Pick up your mess each time you get out of the car. Treat it with love.

  11. Cleaning the car is my least favorite thing ever – but this post may have just motivated me to do it! Thanks lady!

  12. I need this my car is a mess

  13. Nice tips! I hate car washes.after washing two days later, it looks all filthy again!

  14. This was an awful post, sorry

  15. Don’t let kids eat or drink in the car and you dint have spills and crumbs….its transportation not a restaurant dining room

  16. As a mother with 4 children keeping a clean car can be frustrating! I use some of the same tips you posted and others I will definitely try. It’s easy to say you won’t let your kids eat/drink in the car but that can be almost impossible with babies and toddlers.

  17. Tip #6 is not safe. Most car seats do not allow anything underneath them. It would be considered an aftermarket product. Even if they do allow a towel, it should be in a single layer. Not folded so that it is more bulky. It is important to check your manual!!
