{Tutorial} Glow In The Dark Shirt

OurThriftyIdeas.com: Glow In The Dark Shirt - Easy Crafting with Kids

Supplies:

  • Glow in the dark paint (part of the Tulip Tie Dye kit)
  • Solid Colored Shirt
  • Freezer Paper
  • Cricut cutting machine or other way to cut your stencil

tie dye kit

I received a fun box from iLoveToCreate with tie dye and fabric paint. As soon as I opened the box and told The Little Man that one of the paints was Glow in the dark, he decided for me what our first project would be! Forget the messy and fun task of tie dye, we were going for a ghost, “boo” and glow in the dark!! (such a boy!)

So I started out with a solid black shirt that I bought at JoAnn’s. I let him pick his color, and he said “Ghosts glow on black Mom”. Oh, DUH!

Using the Cricut Craft Room, I pulled up all of our ghost images and let him pick which one he liked the most. Then added the Boo words to it as well. (upload the file for this image here)

Glow In The Dark Shirt

I cut the image out on freezer paper so that I could iron it onto the shirt for an easy stencil with The Little Man.

Once it was fully attached, we traced the outline of the ghost, added eyes and a mouth, then put a bunch in the middle of each letter. Then using our finger, spread it (still leaving it thick) to fill the whole letter.

Let the paint set for about 30 minutes, and then pull the stencil out. Do not let it fully dry, because it could pull the paint off with it.
Lay flat for about 4 hours so the paint can dry and attach to the fabric.

Glow In The Dark Paint

To activate the paint, let it soak in some UV’s then go in a dark room (like our bathroom with no windows!) and see the glow!
