{Tutorial} Halloween Count Down Plate

Halloween Countdown Plate

Last week I received a fun package with the challenge to create “something”. Seriously, one of the greatest tasks ever. Use your imagination, and get something made out of it. But I’ve been so into the Halloween theme lately, that I couldn’t help but go in that direction. So I created a fun, and child friendly, Halloween Count Down.

I started by painting the plate a fun purple color

I took a little sand paper to the edges to distress it a bit.
I cut the words “Days til Halloween” out of the provided vinyl. I used the sparkly orange and green vinyl for each of the vowels. Love how it turned out.

I then found a fun orange clip that I thought I would nail into the plate….but I could not get the nail to go into the sturdy wood! So I had to change plans!

So Instead I used some gorilla glue and tacked it on. If you haven’t used gorilla glue before, make sure you use a damp cloth to wet down each surface.

Oh, and don’t forget to use something heavy to help them hold. I didn’t the first time, and it pulled right off. So I improvised and used the heaviest things within reach!

Ok, so once it dried I wanted to hit myself for forgetting that the glue dries white…not clear. And I put a whole bunch on, so it seeped out the sides.

So once again, improvising, I grabbed the closest ribbons (from a cute banner I’ll show you later) and tied them onto the clip to cover the glue.

I used some cute Halloween paper that was sent with the package, as well as some I already had, and cut them into 4×3 inch papers. Then using some of my number stickers, made a paper for each number 1-31!

I put the plate on an easel and have it sitting by my bigger than life witch’s hat. I also used a wood bat that I got from Crafty Wood Cutouts (more on them next week!) and have it sitting at the bottom of the plate.

The Little Man is already trying to change the numbers….so I may need to put it away until October 1! Oh, and we are going on 2 vacations in October, so if you see me out on the road with this, it’s probably because he wont let us miss a day!
