For The Babies

I have 2 friends having babies soon, and I have started to make gifts for them. You get to see the fun items and, of course, tutorials to go with them!

I don’t know about your little ones, but mine loved 3 things when they were an infant. Taggies, Crinkle Toys, and Soft Lovie Blankets. So when Baby Girl Barker was born, I made her all 3 combined!!

So we’ll call it a Soft Crinkle Lovie w/ Tags!

crinkle toy

To get the crinkle, I use an empty wipes refill bag! It gives it the perfect sound without being too stiff.

Pull off the top and cut off the two sides. This will help it to lay flat. Don’t worry about the sticky part where the top was. This will actually help hold it in place while you sew!

Then you will cut your 2 fabric pieces to the size of your wipes case. I used regular cotton fabric on one side, and minky fabric on the back.

Before you start, make sure to read my Sewing With Minky tips here.

Lay your 2 pieces of fabric, right sides together, and pin in place. if you are using minky fabric, remember to pin a TON. Like every inch to make sure there’s no slipping.

You will then take your strips of ribbon, fold in half, and pin them facing in toward the center. BUT, you will place it in between the fabric (not as pictured, I’m just doing that so you see where to put it. Instead it will be between the two fabrics). You can place the ribbon wherever you’d like. Also, you can do a whole bunch of taggies, or just a few. It’s up to you!

Then you will place the wipes case on top and pin once on each side. As I said before, the sticky stuff will help hold this in place, so not a lot of pinning is required! Sew the 3 layers, and ribbons, together.

Leave at least a 2-3 inch opening so you can turn it right side out.

Once it is ride side out, tuck under the opening and stitch closed!

Baby Shower Gift Idea

Ta-Da! You are all done.

The loops on the taggie is great to attach those little hooks too. You can then hang it on the car seat handle, shopping cart, or highchair to prevent it from falling!

These are perfect for your own little one as well as amazing for gifts. You can even make them from the little scraps of fabric you have around the house!

  1. Love! I have made the taggie blankets before, and I love your idea for adding the crinkle. And reusing those wipes bags – genius!

  2. Adorable and I would have never even thought of using an empty wipes refill bag. 🙂

  3. I was totally thinking of doing this exact same thing the other day! Great minds think alike I tell you!

  4. Whoa..nifty trick using the wipes container! My son has had a blanket like this since he was a baby (he’s 6 now) with no crinkle though. Love the crinkle…love it lots!

  5. So cute! Love the fabric that you used and I’m sure that they will love the crinkle toy

  6. What a great tutorial! Using the wipes container is genius!

  7. What about if you wash and dry it..then what happens to the wipe thing?

  8. I made several crinkle type things for my granddaughter, using PUL fabric. I used the wipe container also but never thot to sew it in so it would stay in place,… Thanks for that wonderful idea!!!!!!!

  9. I would worry that this plastic is not safe for babies to chew on. You can buy crinkle material on places like amazon and Etsy. Our babies live in a world with enough toxins without giving them plastic packaging to chew on. Choose a product that is food grade
