Spring Burlap Banner Tutorial

So I’ve slightly jumped ahead of myself. Laying in bed yesterday morning, I got a fun thought for a spring banner. With the snow falling outside my window, I needed something bright, sunny, and fun to help the mood for the day!

I have so much burlap in my craft closet. I have never even used burlap before but have been collecting it almost every time I go to the fabric store. So I had my first try at it. LOVE IT!

Here’s how I made mine.

You can go here to download my banner template. Just print it on an 8 1/2 x 11 paper.

Trace the banner template onto your burlap and cut one out for each letter/symbol.

My favorite way to stencil is to use my cricut cutter and freezer paper. I cut whatever I need out using my cricut but instead of putting regular paper onto the cutting mat, I use freezer paper. Then, you just use an iron to attach it to your burlap (or whatever other fabric you are using). That way there will be no way the paint can leak thru!

Before you paint, make sure to place something under your burlap so the paint doesn’t get on your table. Then paint your letters!

Once the paint is dry, peel off the freezer paper to reveal your perfectly painted letters!

You can embellish each flag anyway you want. I’m currently SO OBSESSED with buttons with contrast stitching. So that’s how I chose to embellish mine.

I used 2 different colors of tulle for hanging. To attach the flags to the tulle, I just used mini clothes pins. I love the rustic look it gives.

Right now the banner is hanging in my room above my bed. It’s just waiting for St. Patty’s day to be over to put on my shelf downstairs.
