Make a decorative shelf for cheap

The last 2 days we started taking down our Christmas decor. I was ecstatic to take it down, mainly because the tree takes up so much room. It is nice to have space in my living room again! But then again, now we have a huge stack of decor waiting to be taken to the storage unit.

I’m sure hoping I’m not the only one who has a stack like this!

Today we got to decorating for winter!!! Although we have VERY LITTLE snow outside, we can have some wishful thinking right?

This little decorative shelf is so fun and cute. I thought I would share how you could make your own for really cheap and easy!

All you need is:
2- 2×4 in one length (length depends on the size you want your shelf)
2- 2x in another length (length depends on the size you want your shelf)
Crown Molding cut to a 45* angle in same length as previous 2 boards

You will take your 2×4’s and make a cube nailing the 2 shorter boards to the edges of the longer ones. This forms the inside of the shelf. You will then place the crown moldings together to make a frame and nail to the cube of 2×4’s

Do not paint until after you have put it all together. That way you can puddy the nail holes and paint it all at once!

I love the look of this because it looks like a big frame on the wall, but you can switch it out with new things for each season, occasion, or use just as a regular shelf for pictures and such.

And I just used 3M Command strips to hang mine. That way if I decide to move it later, I wont have huge holes in the wall, and my landlord will also like me more!

I think I’ll be making 3 more smaller ones in a square, to put in an awkward spot up my stairs. Maybe paint them in a fun turquoise color?! Now the wheels are turning!*I’ve had many inquiries about my sunburst. It’s made from paper straws and I got the fabulous idea while at the Cookie Exchange at Tatertots and Jello. She has a tutorial here
